Benue Electoral Commission Members Inaugurated by Gov Alia

Swearing in seven members of the State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State emphasized the importance of conducting free, credible, and inclusive council polls. Dr. John Chen serves as the Chairman of the Commission.

The selection of each member was based on their nonpartisan stance, exceptional qualifications, integrity, and strong commitment to democratic principles essential for the advancement of Benue and the sustenance of democracy, according to the governor.

In his address, Governor Alia highlighted the Commission’s vital role in establishing a democratic foundation for local councils and wards, serving as the primary connection between the government and the people.

Emphasizing the need for free, fair, and credible elections that truly represent the desires of the population, the governor pledged the government’s unwavering support for the independence of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission. He reiterated the government’s dedication to transparency, credibility, and inclusivity in the electoral process.

Expressing gratitude to the Commission members for their willingness to serve Benue, Governor Alia applauded the House of Assembly for their diligent screening and confirmation of the BSIEC appointees.
