Bayern Munich reveals De Ligt’s transfer price to Man Utd

Manchester United have been informed by Bayern Munich that they will need to pay €50 million (£42 million) for Matthijs de Ligt, their sought-after defender.

With the departure of Raphael Varane, Man United’s focus for this summer transfer window is securing a new center-back.

Although Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton is a priority target, an initial offer of £45 million from the Red Devils was turned down this week.

Considering Everton’s hefty demand of over £70 million for the 21-year-old, Manchester United is prepared to consider other alternatives if the negotiations do not progress.

Sky Germany reports that De Ligt has emerged as a potential option, leading the Premier League club to initiate internal discussions about the Dutch international, who previously played under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax.

Bayern Munich is willing to offload De Ligt this summer but is adamant about receiving a €50 million fee for the player.

De Ligt made a €77 million (£65.6 million) move from Ajax to Bayern in July 2022.

The 24-year-old is currently with the Netherlands national team, preparing for their Euro 2024 group stage match against Poland on Sunday.
