Authorities of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Security Outfit have arrested Dinikpeke Orufa, a well-known thief notorious for invading farmlands and illegally harvesting produce for sale.

The 23-year-old suspect, a native of Polaku community in Yenagoa Local Government area of the State, was apprehended in the popular Tombia area on Monday, August 22, following a failed attempt to sell stolen farm produce.

Hon. Doubiye Alagba, the State Vigilante boss, revealed that his team had been tracking the suspect since last week, after a female farm owner traced her stolen produce to the popular Tombia market.

“The incident nearly incited crisis in the area, but was peacefully resolved between the trader and the farmer as the trader paid for the product again. This prompted us to intensify our pursuit of the suspect. He would disguise himself as a farmer, bring stolen farm produce to the market to convince buyers that the products are from his farm,” Alagba explained.

Alagba also stated, “Last week, he successfully sold stolen potatoes, which our investigation revealed were from a farmland along the Igbogene tollgate area of the state. This time at the market, he was promptly identified and apprehended by our operatives stationed at the Tombia roundabout markers area.”
