Bashir El-Rufai: Government Shouldn’t Subsidize Pilgrimages

In a recent statement, Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, expressed his view that government entities should refrain from subsidizing religious pilgrimages.

There have been calls from various civil society groups urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene and subsidize the 2024 Hajj fares, following the announcement of an increase by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON.

El-Rufai, however, argued that given the current economic climate, subsidizing religious pilgrimages should not be a government priority.

Expressing his opinion on the matter, he tweeted: “Governments should have no business subsidizing religious pilgrimages, especially not in this current economic climate.”
