Bar Owner Arrested in Lagos: Admits to Stabbing Customer to Death Out of Anger

Following an incident at his drinking bar, 53-year-old Obioma Dennis has been arrested by the Lagos State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID), Panti Street, Yaba. The arrest was made after Dennis allegedly stabbed one of his customers to death.

Dennis, awaiting arraignment in court, expressed remorse for his actions, attributing them to what he believes was a spell cast on him by his enemies. He recounted that an altercation occurred when he confronted the deceased and two friends who were about to consume banned substance, Indian Hemp, at his bar in Alausa. The confrontation turned violent, leading to the fatal stabbing.

Reflecting on the incident, Dennis explained, “In rage, I grabbed the chair they were sitting on and threw it inside my shop, which resulted in one of the guys, later identified as Emeka, destroying my electronic appliances. He smashed my television. In an attempt to protect my belongings, I pushed him out of my shop. Subsequently, Ifeayi grabbed a beer bottle and struck me on the head. I fled to the inner part of the shop, grabbed a kitchen knife, and fatally stabbed Ifeanyi in the chest, causing him to collapse in a pool of blood while clutching his chest.

“I regret my action now because Ifeanyi is like my younger brother. I contributed towards funeral expenses when his father passed away three years ago. Had I not been consumed by anger, I doubt I would have found myself capable of killing anyone,” he expressed regretfully.

The police reported that the suspect was initially apprehended and held at Alausa Police Station before being transferred to SCIID, Panti for further investigation.

“It is a clear case of culpable homicide. The case will proceed to court upon completion of the investigation,” stated the police.
