Bandits Launch Fatal Attack in Katsina, Claim Lives of Village Head and Others

The town of Kukar Babangida in Jibia local government area of Katsina state was recently invaded by bandits, resulting in the tragic deaths of the village head, Magaji Haruna Zaure, and his three children. 

 

An undisclosed resident informed Daily Trust that the attack, commencing at approximately 10 pm on January 10, 2024, resulted in the deaths of eight other individuals. 

 

According to the source, “Three were killed together with the son of the village, Idris Haruna, in the same house, while two were the watchmen of a company, Tinna Tech. The terrorists slaughtered one of the watchmen and and shot the other with a gun.” 

 

Furthermore, the assailants set ablaze two trucks belonging to the company and one additional gulf car.” 

 

There are reports of an unspecified number of women being abducted during the attack.” 

 

Indications of the planned attack were observed since around 5pm that day, with the terrorists seen gathering around Taka-Tsaba and Yargeza villages. Although security forces were informed, there was little to no preventive action taken, leading to the tragic incident.” 

 

One resident commented, “We were assured by the security agents that there was adequate security reinforcement to come should there be any attack, but unfortunately the bandits operated for several hours without any challenge. Only an operation vehicle came after the attackers had left.”

 

Local residents suspect the involvement of two notorious bandit kingpins operating in and around Jibia local government area.
