Attempted Bomb Attack Thwarted by Police in Lagos

In a recent development, the anti-bomb squad of the Lagos State Police Command successfully prevented an Improvised Explosive Device attack in the Ikeja area of the state.

This revelation was confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in an interview with PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.

According to reports, a sharp-eyed police officer noticed a young man exiting a vehicle, placing a bag next to the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence, and quickly driving away.

Hundeyin stated that upon receiving the alert, the area was promptly cordoned off, and bomb experts were dispatched to the location.

Further information revealed that the IED was safely detonated at a secure location around 4 pm.

“The report indicated a suspicious white Corolla car parked near the gate of PMF 23 Barracks, with a young man leaving a bag near the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence before swiftly leaving the scene.”

“Upon receiving the alert, an EOD-CBRN team was swiftly mobilized to assess the object and neutralize it if confirmed as an IED. Upon inspection, the object was identified as an IED, leading to the immediate cordoning off of the area. Following established protocols, the IED was made safe and later detonated at a secure location,” explained Hundeyin.

He further reassured the public that the vicinity returned to a state of calm after the incident.
