Atiku Criticizes Tinubu’s Forex Policy as Rushed

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice-president of Nigeria, has expressed his concern that President Bola Tinubu’s decision to unify the exchange rate was made hastily without proper planning and stakeholder consultations.

In a statement on Sunday, Atiku voiced his belief that Nigeria’s economy was veering off course as the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari came to a close.

He disapproved of Tinubu for not effectively communicating his administration’s strategies to address the ongoing economic crisis gripping the nation.

Atiku disclosed, “During a meeting convened by Tinubu last Thursday to discuss the foreign exchange crisis and economic downturn, among other issues, he failed to present any tangible policy measures being enacted by his administration to tackle the challenges of currency fluctuation and poverty confronting the country.”

“Instead, he advised the country and experts offering solutions to the crisis that he and his team needed time to continue developing their approach, which has inflicted severe hardship on the people of Nigeria,” Atiku added.

Expressing his disagreement, Atiku insisted that “The flawed policies of the Tinubu administration persist in causing great distress to the economy, and the rest of us cannot remain silent when the government has shown a lack of innovative solutions to remedy the situation.”
