Arrest Made in Connection with the Killing of a Medical Doctor in Zamfara

An individual named Abubakar Namalika has been arrested by the Zamfara State Police Command in connection with the brutal killing of Dr. Enoch Okpara, a medical doctor in Gusau.

Dr. Okpara, a consultant Obstetrics/Gynaecologist at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, was discovered dead at his residence in the Mareri area of the state capital on Saturday, June 13. His body was found burnt beyond recognition after his church raised an alarm when he did not show up for a program on Saturday morning, which was unusual.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Usman Nagogo, the suspect Abubakar has confessed to the killing of Dr. Okpara and has provided information about other crimes that are now under investigation.

Nagogo stated that the suspect was apprehended by a team of Operation Puff Adder on Sunday around 10 p.m. while attempting to commit another crime along with some of his accomplices who are currently at large.

“During interrogation, the suspect, who is part of the notorious criminal gang of Shehu Bagewaye, also known as Shehu Gusami, confessed to numerous other crimes including the killing of five individuals. He also admitted to being involved in the recent attack on Dogon kade village where seven people were killed.

He disclosed that they went to Dr. Enoch Okpara’s house to forcibly obtain money from him, and when they were unable to do so, they proceeded to kill him and burn his remains within his house, where he lived alone,” explained the CP.

The police commissioner mentioned that the investigation is ongoing to apprehend the other four gang members responsible for the killing of the medical doctor.
