Army denies allegations of involvement in labor meeting

In response to claims made by the Nigeria Labour Congress regarding soldiers surrounding the venue where a meeting between organized labor leadership and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation was taking place, the Nigerian Army has refuted these allegations.

A brief statement released by the Army Headquarters via its X handle on Tuesday evening emphasized that the accusations were both false and misleading.

Upon their arrival at the meeting, the Nigeria Labour Congress took to their X handle to express concerns about the presence of soldiers at the meeting location.
The NLC expressed, “Soldiers are currently surrounding the venue of the meeting between Labour and Government at the SGF premises.”

Contrary to the claims made by the NLC, the Army’s statement attributed the presence of soldiers to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who attended the meeting accompanied by his officially sanctioned military escorts.

The statement clarified that once the meeting is over, the NSA and his escorts will leave the venue.

The Army’s statement disclosed, “The Army Headquarters has been made aware of a false breaking news report by NLC alleging the presence of soldiers surrounding the venue where a meeting between NLC and the SGF is ongoing.

“It is important to note that the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is also participating in the meeting, arrived with his approved military escorts. Once the meeting concludes, the escorts will escort the NSA away from the venue .

“Please disregard the deliberate and misleading falsehood being spread regarding the escorts’ presence at the meeting.”
