Armed Robbery Syndicate and Others Apprehended in Katsina

In Katsina State, the Police Command successfully dismantled a six-member armed robbery syndicate.

During a press briefing at the command headquarters on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, shared this information with journalists.

Responding to multiple reports about the criminal activities of a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had been causing fear in Filin Polo quarters in Katsina metropolis and its surroundings, Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar Musa promptly deployed a team of operatives to investigate and apprehend the culprits.

“A team was immediately activated and effectively neutralized a six-member notorious armed robbery syndicate operating in Filin Polo quarters of Katsina metropolis,” he stated.

The arrested suspects, all hailing from Filin Polo quarters, Katsina, are Ismail Hamza (23, aka Dawale), Umar Faruq Aliyu (20, aka Lauya), Yasir Jamilu (19, aka Kwame), Abu Safiyanu (20, aka Gije), Murtala Abubakar (20, aka Muri), and Bello Yusuf (25, aka Yellow), apprehended in a sting operation.

On the night of July 30, 2024, armed with knives and cutlasses, the suspects unlawfully entered the residence of 45-year-old Muntari Usman in Filin Polo quarters and robbed him of ₦1,850,000.00.

Furthermore, on August 11, 2024, around 2:00 a.m., the syndicate collaborated with a fugitive named Dan Bichi to break into the homes of Badiya Mansur (20 years old) and Fatima Mohammed (40 years old), stealing a sheep and a ram worth ₦220,000.00.

During the same night, around 2:30 a.m., they also burglarized the house of 44-year-old Fatima Mohammed, taking away two phones: an Infinix (valued at ₦50,000) and a Techno keypad (valued at ₦15,000).

“The suspects confessed to the crimes during interrogation, identifying Bello Yusuf (aka Yellow) as their accountant and mentioning Sa’idu (currently at large) as an accomplice. Through the investigation, two sheep, one ram, and ₦1,850,000.00 were recovered as evidence. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fugitive suspect,” the officer added.

The officer also mentioned that the command had dismantled a separate five-member syndicate involved in motorcycle theft.
