The police command in Kebbi State has arrested a crossdresser known as ‘Maryam’ for deceiving men and leading them to seek his hand in marriage.
Allegedly, ‘Maryam’ engaged in various internet encounters with men, enticing them into proposing marriage without disclosing his true gender. The crossdresser, situated in Gwandune town, admitted to receiving substantial amounts of money from potential suitors, who were unaware of his identity.
Following suspicion from the victims regarding the high number of men pursuing ‘Maryam’, the police conducted an interrogation. The suspect admitted to the fraudulent activities, acknowledging that he had obtained significant amounts of money, including foreign currency, from the men who pursued him.
The police have detained ‘Maryam’ and are preparing to prosecute him for his actions. In an online video, the crossdresser is depicted assuming his female persona, which has circulated widely on the internet.
