President Bola Tinubu expressed admiration for the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, referring to his time on the bench as a testament to the value of hard work, dedication, and service to Nigeria and humanity.

At the public presentation of the book ‘Judging with Justice: The Autobiography of Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola’ held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu commended Justice Ariwoola’s legacy.

A statement by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, highlighted Tinubu’s remarks, praising Justice Ariwoola for his unwavering commitment to the nation and its people through his judicial career.

“His long and illustrious career on the bench underscores the significance of hard work, dedication, and selfless service to our country and humanity,” Tinubu remarked in reference to the retired CJN’s contributions.

Upon reaching the age of 70, Justice Ariwoola, the 22nd CJN, retired during a valedictory session at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja.

Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the book launch, acknowledged the progressive reforms in the judiciary under Justice Ariwoola’s tenure, including an extension of the retirement age for judges and judicial officers to 65-70 years.

Recognizing the pivotal role of incisive judgments in societal reforms, Tinubu underscored the importance of Justice Ariwoola’s contributions to the judiciary’s advancement.

Reflecting on Justice Ariwoola’s humble beginnings at the Local Authority Demonstration School in Iseyin, Oyo State, Tinubu praised his journey from a law officer at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice to a prominent figure in the judiciary, citing it as an inspiration to all.

Tinubu emphasized Justice Ariwoola’s academic and professional excellence, lauding his dedication to fostering a just and equitable society through his leadership in the judiciary.

He urged the judiciary to uphold its constitutional duty, urging it not to be swayed by undue criticisms, and expressed confidence in Justice Ariwoola’s successors to sustain and build upon his legacy of justice and excellence.

Wishing Justice Ariwoola a fulfilling retirement and continued success in his future pursuits, Tinubu encouraged all to emulate his commitment to excellence and justice in public service.

Justice Ariwoola’s autobiography, unveiled as part of his retirement celebration, garnered accolades from notable figures such as Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Minister Nyesom Wike, and former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

These testimonials underscored Justice Ariwoola’s exemplary leadership and significant contributions to the judiciary, reinforcing the book’s central theme that justice should be the guiding principle for all individuals, regardless of their profession.
