Tasked with investigating alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum and gas sector, a seven-member panel has been established by Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Following the recent dissolution of the previous ad-hoc committee responsible for probing alleged misconduct in the industry, this new development has been put in place.

Prof Julius Ihonvbere, the House Leader, has been appointed as the co-chairman of the committee, along with other members including Iduma Ighariwey, Gboyega N. Isiaka, Sada Soli, Fatima Talba, Tunji Raheem, and Patrick Umoh, Ph.D., as announced by the House Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi Jr.

In a statement, it was highlighted, “The urgency and importance of this matter have brought about the need for close collaboration between the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“This new setup aims at fostering synergy, adopting a holistic approach to addressing the issues, and streamlining administrative coordination for a successful and efficient investigation process.

“The Committee is set to kickstart its responsibilities promptly, with a specific mandate to ensure accountability and transparency within the sector”.
