The Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, has made an appeal to the Federal Government to support his administration in addressing the challenges of insecurity and frequent flooding in certain parts of the state.
A statement from the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, revealed this plea on Friday.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission at the Government House in Lokoja on Thursday, Ododo emphasized the urgent need for increased financial assistance from the Federal Government due to Kogi’s position as a transit state sharing borders with 10 other states. He highlighted the potential impact on neighboring states if these issues are not dealt with promptly.
Ododo specifically requested enhanced funding from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission through the Stabilisation Fund to tackle the emerging challenges in the state as part of the special intervention by the federal government.
In response, the leader of the delegation, Bako Shettima, clarified that their visit was to assess the grounds for releasing the Stabilisation Fund in light of the state government’s appeal.
“Our purpose here is to evaluate the presented information and determine the eligibility for the disbursement of the requested stabilisation fund by the state government,” he elaborated.
Shettima assured that the commission will carefully review the concerns raised and take proactive measures to meet the needs outlined by the Kogi State government.
Subsequently, Ododo guided the RMAFC delegation on an inspection of various ongoing projects in the state, including the 9km Zone 8-Zango-GYB Road, 5.5km Zone 8-Crusher Road, and the renovation of the workshop at the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project complex in Felele, among others.
