Appeal from Nigeria’s First Lady to Reconsider Protest Plans

Encouraging Nigerians to rethink their decision to protest from August 1-10, Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, emphasized that the current administration is tirelessly working towards improving the country.

Mrs. Tinubu noted the lingering effects from the 2020 #EndSARS protests and urged the youth to be proactive and innovative in harnessing opportunities within Nigeria.

During a meeting with Governors’ Wives at the quarterly Renewed Hope Initiative session in Abuja, the importance of upcoming collaborations with relevant government bodies was highlighted.

Prior to the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests scheduled for August 1-10, 2024, the First Lady made a plea for patience and called on organizers to reconsider.

Highlighting the need to avoid disrupting daily lives, she stressed the importance of understanding potential consequences following protests.

Emphasizing Nigeria’s improved global reputation and the interest of international partners in legitimate ventures within the country, Mrs. Tinubu urged youth to seize opportunities through creativity and engagement.

She recalled the entrepreneurial spirit displayed by Nigerians during the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized the abundance of opportunities available within Nigeria.

Advocating for increased youth involvement in agriculture, the First Lady underlined the importance of cultivating a farming culture among young citizens.

Supporting small businesses through her pet project, RHI, Mrs. Tinubu disclosed grants given to petty traders and outlined future collaborations and activities of the Renewed Hope Initiative.

These efforts involve partnerships with government bodies and international organizations in various sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and economic empowerment.

Additionally, initiatives like the AUDA-NEPAD/RHI Scholarship Programme and the RHI Women Economic Empowerment Programme for Petty Traders were announced.

At the meeting, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the late music legend, Onyeka Onwenu.
