Appeal from Adeleke to Civil Society Organisations: Maintain Peace in Osun State During Protests

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has urged Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders intending to participate in the national hunger protests to avoid any actions that could jeopardize the peace and security of the state.

Mr. Kolapo Alimi, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, revealed in a statement from Osogbo on Tuesday that Adeleke delivered this message during a meeting with members of the Civil Society Organisations and other local groups.

Represented by Deputy Governor Mr. Kola Adewusi, Adeleke, in a meeting attended by heads of various security agencies in the state, acknowledged the protesters’ constitutional right to demonstrate but cautioned against any conduct that might disrupt the peace and harmony in Osun.

Quoting the governor, the statement emphasized, “Maintaining Osun’s reputation as a role model for other states in Nigeria is a key focus of my administration.”

The governor further expressed, “I urge you to adhere to the law before, during, and after the upcoming nationwide protests, as my government in Osun State will not tolerate any form of violence during the protests.

“In Osun, we are renowned for our hospitality and peaceful nature, and it’s important to preserve that reputation as a state that excels in all things positive and progressive.”

Addressing the audience earlier, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Abba, and Commander of the Engineering Construction Regiment in Ede, Brigadier General Abdul Kareem Aliyu, advised the protesters to conduct themselves with dignity during their demonstrations in Osun State.
