Appeal Court upholds sack of Oyo council chairmen

The sack of Oyo council chairmen has been upheld by the Appeal Court, overturning a judgment by the Oyo State High Court which had restrained the governor and government from dissolving local government councils. The Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan set aside the previous judgment on Wednesday July 15. According to Justice Haruna Tsammani, the case lacked verifiable facts and was based on mere speculations and conjectures. The sacked local government chairmen failed to provide evidence of the plan by the Oyo State governor to dissolve the councils. Despite the Appeal Court judgment, the sacked council bosses have rejected it and vowed to take the matter to the Supreme Court for further redress and judicial interpretation.
