APC’s Challenge to Fubara: Validate Your Popularity by Holding LG Elections

A call has been made by the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Rivers State governor, Siminilayi Fubara, to demonstrate his popularity through the conduction of local government elections in the state.

Following a peace meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu to address the political crisis in Rivers State, it was agreed upon as part of the resolutions to proceed with conducting local government elections.

Furthermore, the APC has criticized the show of support for Tinubu by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who remain loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, labeling it as hypocritical.

Notably, members of the defunct PDP Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State threw their support behind Tinubu and Fubara on Thursday, led by former national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, and former Director General of PDP Campaign Council, Dr Abiye Sekibo.

During a press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman of APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, emphasized the continued support of these PDP elements for Atiku.

Okocha questioned the effectiveness of the governor’s approach, contrasting it with the diligence exhibited by governors in states like Lagos, pointing out the exorbitant costs associated with Fubara’s weekly thanksgiving services funded by state resources.

He urged Fubara to proceed with the long-overdue local government elections to gauge the public sentiment and test the prevailing political dynamics in the state.

Referencing the eight resolutions agreed upon with the President, Okocha highlighted the need for adherence to the Presidential Proclamation to address the political crisis in Rivers State.

He also raised questions regarding the actions of those challenging the President’s intervention in the state and the failure to implement crucial measures aimed at resolving the crisis.
