APC Chieftain Calls for Akpabio’s Resignation Over Protest Remark

Demanding the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, criticized Akpabio for allegedly encouraging hunger protesters by stating, “we shall be eating.”

Despite Akpabio’s denial of the statement, Vatsa, in a released statement, labeled the comment as insensitive and shameful for the ruling party, highlighting it as a display of the “eating” culture within Akpabio’s previous party, the Peoples Democratic Party.

Former Commissioner for Information in Niger State, Vatsa, called for Akpabio to apologize to the Nigerian people.

Vatsa expressed, “It is a grave mistake and a disfavor to the nation to appoint someone like Akpabio as the Senate President in the APC government. This is why this government continuously falters.

“The APC has been infiltrated by those whom Nigerians were disillusioned with and sought ‘change’ from in 2015. They have been indulging in luxuries and desire to persist in this behavior, as implied by Akpabio.”

“I mentioned this previously and will reiterate it; it is distressing to see these individuals, who were once accused of plundering the country, now being warmly welcomed. How can we expect improvement?

“Akpabio feasted on the same indulgences during his 16-year tenure under the PDP regime and now he seeks to continue the trend within the APC government. This is the sufferance of a nation.”

Vatsa argued that as Akpabio’s state, Akwa Ibom, aligns with the PDP, he should not have been permitted to hold the position of Senate President.

“Our party must commence the restoration of its reputation and regain the trust of Nigerians before 2027. This process should begin with Akpabio’s resignation to demonstrate our seriousness as a party,” Vatsa emphasized.
