Reports indicate that a woman has been taken into custody for the alleged fatal beating of her stepdaughter in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. The incident is said to have occurred after the girl’s father purchased plantains for the household.
It was reported that despite the intervention of a female soldier, the woman, purportedly the wife of a soldier stationed at the 6 Division of the Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt, called her husband who then instructed the female soldier to leave their residence.
Following the female soldier’s departure, the 10-year-old girl reportedly collapsed and passed away as a result of continued beating by her stepmother. Despite being rushed to a nearby clinic, the young girl was pronounced dead.
The soldier and his wife are currently in detention under the custody of officials from the 6 Division of the Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt.
