Amaka Igwe: Google Doodle pays tribute to Nigerian filmmaker on 57th posthumous birthday

On her 57th posthumous birthday, the late veteran Nollywood filmmaker, Amaka Igwe, has been honored with a Google Doodle.

 

Amaka Igwe, a Nigerian filmmaker, broadcasting executive, and the owner of Top Radio 90.9 Lagos and Amaka Igwe Studios, was recognized as one of the second generation filmmakers who helped initiate the video film era of Nigerian cinema.  

 

Until her passing in 2014, she remained a prominent figure in the industry. Igwe gained national prominence as the writer and producer of the award-winning TV soap ‘Checkmate’ and its offshoot ‘Fuji House of Commotion’.

Her Nollywood projects, including ‘Rattle snake’ and ‘Violated’, set Amaka Igwe Studios apart during the Video film era of Nigerian cinema.
