Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Decides Not to Contest for Third Term Amid Pressure to Resign Following Nigeria’s World Cup Qualification Failure

In a surprising move, Amaju Pinnick, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has announced that he will not seek a third term in office when his current tenure ends in September.

His decision comes after facing intense pressure to step down following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

On Friday, April 8, Mr. Pinnick clarified his stance on running for a third term, acknowledging that his involvement in football administration has taken a toll on his family.

During an interview on Arise TV, he stated, “It has been a very turbulent ride for Nigerian football. According to the statutes, I am eligible to run for another term. But do I want to? It’s a no-no. My family is very important to me, and they believe that my role has taken a toll on us. They feel that I have given my best, and it’s time to step aside. It’s a difficult decision, but it’s the right one.”
