Alleged Sexual Molestation: OAU Lecturer Suspended and Handed over to Police

Reports indicate that Mr. Monday Omo-Etan, a Chemistry lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, has been suspended by the institution’s management and handed over to the police following allegations of sexual molestation involving a 19-year-old student. Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, affirmed the institution’s commitment to eradicating all forms of sexual harassment, molestation, and social vices.

This action comes three weeks after another OAU lecturer, Mr. Olabisi Olaleye from the Department of International Relations, was also suspended for allegedly sexually harassing a female student. The suspension and police involvement of Omo-Etan follows the circulation of a viral voice note in which a female student voiced accusations of sexual abuse against the lecturer. The Osun State police command has confirmed the lecturer’s arrest on charges of indecent assault. The State’s Police Commissioner, Johnson Kokumo, disclosed that the lecturer is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and is undergoing questioning. Kokumo also stated that a fresh investigation has commenced on the matter and the suspect will soon appear in court.
