Alleged Interception of Weaponised Drone at Lagos Airport

Reports indicate that a man was apprehended by officials of the Nigerian Army Department of Military Intelligence for allegedly possessing two highly weaponised drones.

On January 28, 2020, a suspicious package concealed in cartons was intercepted around 5:00pm.

The suspect, after being questioned at the National Air Defense Corps in Ikeja, allegedly disclosed that he is employed by the Kaduna State Government.

According to Sahara Reporters, on January 30, 2020, the Commander of NADC, Air commodore U.K Abdullah, apparently received a call from unidentified individuals instructing the release of the drones and the suspect. Subsequently, he purportedly ordered military officials to cease further investigation into the case.

However, when contacted, Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, reportedly denied the state government’s involvement in the importation of the drones.

The importer, identified as Kelechi, did not deny his involvement in procuring the drones but declined to provide any comments. He mentioned that the relevant authority responsible for the importation would address the issue in due time.

He said;

“It is confidential. At the appropriate time the appropriate body will speak on this. That is all I have to say.”
