Alleged father apprehended for allegedly causing burns to his 5-year-old son

A man identified as Idowu Sikiru has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly causing burns to his 5-year-old son’s buttock, mouth, and fingers as a punishment for purportedly stealing cooked fish.

 

Sikiru, who allegedly committed the offense in Itowo, in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, was apprehended after a member of the public notified the police. 

 

According to Ogun State’s Police Spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect reportedly forced his son Segun onto a red-hot aluminum plate after accusing him of stealing cooked fish.

The injured boy has been taken to the hospital for treatment, while the alleged father has been transferred to the anti-human trafficking and child labor unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department. Sikiru will be prosecuted once the investigation has been concluded.
