AFCON2021: Eguavoen’s Compensation Structure Revealed by NFF

As the Super Eagles continue to advance in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, interim coach Augustine Eguavoen will only receive win bonuses and not a fixed salary.

Eguavoen took on the interim role after the Nigeria Football Federation terminated Gernot Rohr’s contract in December.

Rohr, who had been in charge since August 2016 and guided the team to World Cup and Nations Cup qualifications, was let go after securing a place at the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs and the Nations Cup in Cameroon.

Eguavoen, now leading the team on a short-term deal, will not be receiving a monthly salary for his services as confirmed by NFF President Amaju Pinnick during an interview on Arise TV.

Pinnick stated, “He will be entitled to the winning bonuses as the team progresses at the tournament.”

Eguavoen made history by winning all three opening matches at the AFCON, becoming the first coach to achieve this feat twice in Nigeria’s history.
