Advancing to the Semifinals: Chelsea and Lyon in Women’s Champions League

Experiencing her European club debut, Mayra Ramirez scored to give Chelsea a first-half lead, which was later equalized by Chasity Grant for Ajax in the second half.

Chelsea secured a 4-1 victory on aggregate after a 3-0 win in the first leg in Amsterdam.

“Ajax performed as anticipated, they put up a good fight,” commented Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert.

Early in the game, Ajax almost took the lead when Tiny Hoekstra blocked goalkeeper Zecira Musovic’s clearance, hitting the post narrowly.

Ramirez marked her Champions League debut with a goal thirty minutes into the game, extending Chelsea’s lead comfortably.

Despite Ajax’s efforts, Chelsea maintained their aggregate lead, with Musovic making crucial saves towards the end of the match.

Lyon’s Domination:

In an earlier match, Lyon secured a 4-1 victory over eight-time champions, completing a 6-2 aggregate win.

Lyon coach Sonia Bompastor praised the team’s performance and highlighted the need for better efficiency in the first half.

While Lyon created several opportunities, they only broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with Cascarino’s goal.

Subsequent goals from Cascarino and Diani ensured Lyon’s comfortable victory and secured their spot in the semifinals.

Great coordination between players led to Lyon’s convincing win over Benfica, with the final goal coming from Diani’s accidental deflection.
