Adeleke urged to prioritize competence in awarding contracts by APM

In Osun State, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) is calling on Governor Ademola Adeleke to focus on competence and merit when awarding contracts, rather than showing favoritism towards cronies and political allies.

The party has stated that it has observed the Adeleke administration assigning contracts to cronies in order to finance his second-term ambitions.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the party’s Chairman, Wale Adebayo, Governor Adeleke is urged to ensure transparency and accountability in the procurement processes of his administration and to allow qualified and competent contractors to play a role in the state’s development.

Emphasizing the importance of awarding contracts to capable contractors instead of cronies, the party believes that this move would showcase Governor Adeleke’s dedication to good governance and result in the delivery of high-quality projects that will benefit the people of Osun State.

Furthermore, the party has issued a caution against the perils of cronyism and nepotism, highlighting how such actions can promote corruption, mismanagement, and the squandering of public funds.

It was emphasized that Governor Adeleke should prioritize the well-being of the state and its residents, ensuring that public contracts are granted on the basis of merit and competency rather than on political affiliations or personal connections.

In order to promote good governance and execute impactful projects that serve the people of Osun State, awarding contracts based on merit and competency is seen as crucial.

Encouraging this shift not only enhances project quality but also strengthens public trust in the government, ultimately leaving a lasting positive impact on the state.

The former Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) underscored the necessity of discontinuing the practice of awarding contracts to cronies, stating that such actions tarnish the government’s reputation in the eyes of the public.

Going forward, it was emphasized that the unnecessary controversies resulting from awarding contracts to companies affiliated with the Deputy Speaker must be avoided.
