Adamawa State Government Commits to Implement N70,000 Minimum Wage by August

In a significant development, the Adamawa State Government has announced its intention to enforce the newly legislated N70,000 minimum monthly wage at the federal level.

During a meeting with organized labor leaders, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri revealed this important decision. The disclosure was made to the press by labor representatives and later confirmed by Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

After a closed-door meeting with Governor Fintiri, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Fashe, informed reporters that state government employees can expect to receive the increased minimum wage starting at the end of August. Local government workers will also benefit from the adjustment next month.

Fashe detailed that the implementation model for the new wage will follow the consequential adjustment structure used in 2019 for the current N32,000 minimum wage, pending the official release of the revised table by the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.

Stating the approach, Fashe noted, “The percentage increment for the new minimum wage will mirror that of the current N32,000 minimum wage applicable in Adamawa State.”

He further highlighted Governor Fintiri’s proactive stance in accepting the N70,000 minimum wage even prior to the formal issuance of guidelines from the Salaries and Wages Commission, underlining the governor’s commitment to the well-being of workers.

Emphasizing the governor’s commitment to the new minimum wage, Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, affirmed that the governor asserted his government’s readiness to implement the revised minimum wage during the meeting with labor leaders.
