Actor Jidekene emphasizes that awards are not the sole driving force for creatives

Expressing his views in a recent interview with Arise TV, Nollywood actor Jidekene Achufusi highlighted that awards should not be the sole motivation for individuals in the creative industry.

Reflecting on his omission from the nominations for the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), he discussed the topic with the host. When asked about his feelings towards the snub, Jidekene responded by shedding light on various perspectives.

He shared, “Experience has taught me that there is always an inevitable shift in generations. Award organizers often have specific targets. It could be a strategy to introduce new talents, acknowledge veteran performers, or even a change from previous patterns. The criteria behind their selections remain ambiguous. However, public discourse is bound to surround their choices.”

Jidekene continued, “In my opinion, it is essential to recognize that success in the industry is not solely dependent on awards. Whether it’s producing remarkable films or securing more substantial roles than before, personal growth signifies a victory. Our primary goal should be to enhance the Nigerian film market rather than focusing on individual positions.”
