Activist Lawyer, Idam Gives DSTV and GOTV 30-Day Notice to Address Subscription Issues

Multi-Choice Communications has been given a 30-day ultimatum by activist lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, to regulate DSTV and GOTV to read only during viewing.

If Multi-Choice and other television networks fail to adopt the “read only during viewing” policy, Idam threatened to take legal action against them.

Idam finds it exploitative that Multi-Choice and other satellite stations disconnect subscribers once their subscription ends, regardless of whether they used it or not.

In a pre-action notice obtained by NewsNow, the activist lawyer based in Abuja questions why Multi-Choice and other satellite stations do not roll over unused subscriptions.

Idam states, “I find it oppressive and exploitative for Multi-Choice to disconnect DSTV and GOTV subscribers at the end of each subscription period, regardless of whether customers used their subscription or not.

“It is totally unacceptable that they instruct their agents to call customers and demand subscription renewal, even if the subscription was not used during the period.

“Furthermore, it is exploitative that DSTV, GOTV, and other digital satellite providers in Nigeria do not explain how they calculate their billing or roll over unused subscriptions, which subjects users to arbitrary and unfair charges.

“Therefore, I have given DSTV, GOTV, and all digital satellite providers 30 days to implement the ‘read only during viewing’ policy. Failure to comply will result in immediate legal action against Multi-Choice TV and all other TV networks in Nigeria.”
