Acting EFCC Chairman: Mohammed Umar Takes Over

Reports indicate that Mohammed Umar has assumed the role of acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, following the suspension of Ibrahim Magu who is under investigation for alleged fraud.

Prior to his appointment, Umar served as the Head of Operations at the EFCC, holding the position of the second most senior operative at the agency.

An inquiry has been initiated into Magu’s tenure as chairman of the anti-corruption agency, prompted by a letter from the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, urging the President to remove Magu and accusing him of corruption, including the diversion of recovered funds.

He was suspended on Tuesday, July 7, to enable his participation in the Justice Ayo Salami panel’s investigation into the corruption allegations against him.
