Achraf Hakimi included in PSG squad for Champions League clash with Bayern Munich despite facingrapecharges

Achraf Hakimi has been selected as part of Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for the upcoming Champions League last-16 match against Bayern Munich, despite being the subject of a formal investigation by French prosecutors over rape allegations.

The Moroccan footballer has been included in Christophe Galtier’s 22-man squad for the match against the German champions at the Allianz Arena.

Last week, French prosecutors initiated a formal investigation following an accusation that Hakimi raped a woman at his home in the Paris suburbs last month.

A 24-year-old woman went to a police station to report the incident but did not file charges.

Subsequently, the investigation was opened, and a pre-trial judge is currently assessing the merits of the case after Hakimi’s questioning on Thursday.

Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, has stated that the accusations are untrue and has alleged that he has been the target of attempted extortion.

Reportedly, the investigation does not prevent Hakimi from leaving the country, as stated by Le Parisien.

Hakimi was absent from PSG’s recent 4-2 victory over Nantes as he is recovering from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the team’s last three games.

PSG will aim to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Bayern on Wednesday for a chance to proceed to the quarter-finals.

Last week, PSG confirmed their support for Hakimi, stating that “The club supports the player, who has firmly denied the accusations and trusts the justice system. Paris Saint-Germain is an institution that promotes respect on and off the pitch.”
