Accusations Leveled by Ohanaeze Chieftain, Isiguzoro, against Southeast Governors and Leaders Regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s Situation

Encouraging fellow Igbo individuals, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, urged the community to focus their discontent towards the Southeast governors and leaders, rather than President Bola Tinubu, in response to the deteriorating security conditions in the region.

Isiguzoro emphasized that the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu and the authorities’ reluctance to release him from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody were the primary factors causing insecurity in the area.

In a statement issued by Isiguzoro on Sunday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, it was revealed that the South-East Governors and certain Igbo leaders had failed to provide the necessary assurances needed to pursue political resolutions for Kanu’s release.

Highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration among the South-East Governors and revered Igbo figures like Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Ebutu Ukiwe, Senator Ike Nwachukwu, and others, Isiguzoro stressed the significance of assuring the Federal Government about Nnamdi Kanu’s future behavior upon release.

He lamented that some South-East Governors and Igbo elites appeared to be capitalizing on Nnamdi Kanu’s detention for personal benefits, political leverage, and to enhance their political relevance.

“It is distressing to observe that certain Southeast Governors and Igbo leaders find contentment in visiting Nnamdi Kanu in the DSS facility, reducing him to the status of a ‘monkey in the Zoo.’ Rather than actively engaging in seeking political solutions for his release, they are more inclined towards taking photos with Kanu during his detention,” Isiguzoro stated.

He stressed the need for Ndigbo to hold Southeast Governors, Igbo Elders, National Assembly members, and Traditional Rulers accountable for the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, instead of solely blaming the Federal Government or President Bola Tinubu.

“The Federal Government is awaiting a unified stance and firm commitments from the Igbo community to facilitate a potential release of Nnamdi Kanu,” Isiguzoro concluded.
