According to Akpabio, Nigeria poised to achieve fuel production self-sufficiency by July

Assurances have been given by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, that Nigeria will achieve self-sufficiency in the production of Premium Motor Spirit (Petroleum) within the next four weeks.

In acknowledging President Bola Tinubu’s decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy, Akpabio mentioned that any temporary hardships would soon dissipate.

Speaking during the South-South APC conference in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, Akpabio mentioned that thorough surveys of numerous refineries led him to this optimistic projection.

“After inspecting the Dangote refinery, I can confirm that by July 2024, Nigeria will likely attain self-sufficiency in PMS production,” he stated.

“The refinery presently meets the demand for diesel and even exports to other nations. Similarly, with fertiliser and Urea. Thus, we are approaching a phase where we produce and consume our own goods,” he added.

Akpabio also provided assurance that ongoing discussions regarding the minimum wage will conclude promptly.

“We are close to finalizing negotiations on the minimum wage, which will be beneficial to Nigerians. The economy we inherited was quite unstable – what I refer to as a ‘foamy economy.’ Nevertheless, the President remains resolute in his commitment to delivering on his mandate,” Akpabio expressed.
