Abuja Protesters Condemn Police Assault

Condemnation has been issued by the organizers of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, the ‘Take It Back Movement,’ following the attack by some members of the Nigeria Police Force on demonstrators gathered at the Berger Roundabout in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The police officers stationed at the roundabout took action early on Friday, using tear gas on both protesters and journalists who had assembled there for the second day of protests.

A brief statement from the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, Damilare Adenola, criticized the police officers’ conduct and highlighted the contradiction between the administration’s professed commitment to democracy and their actions.

He emphasized that the violation of human rights would only serve to incite anger among the impoverished and hunger-stricken Nigerians, who he believed would not remain silent.

“The aggressive harassment of peaceful protesters at Berger Junction by the police today serves as a clear indication that the claims of democracy by the Tinubu administration are merely a facade.

“Despite presenting an image of freedom, their behavior reflects tyranny. This blatant disregard for human rights will only intensify the already struggling and hungry Nigerians, who will voice their discontent,” Adenola expressed.
