Abuja Police Arrest Six ‘One-Chance’ Operators

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended a total of six individuals suspected of being involved in the notorious “one-chance” criminal activities.

In Nigeria, the term “one chance” refers to a robbery scheme where criminals pose as public transport operators, then proceed to rob passengers of their belongings before forcefully ejecting them from the vehicle.

Josephine Adele, the spokesperson for the FCT Command, disclosed that the arrested suspects were identified as Abubakar Adams, Ismail Salisu, Yusuf Bello, Nasiru Saidi, Sani Usman, and Ibrahim Kasa.

A press release issued on Saturday revealed that the police operatives from Utako divisional headquarters successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspects based on credible intelligence.

According to the statement, the arrested individuals are known for targeting unsuspecting commuters, robbing them of their valuables, and then forcibly pushing them out of the moving vehicle.

Adele mentioned that the arrests were made following numerous complaints from victims, and the authorities were able to recover weapons such as cutlasses and knives from the suspects.

“The arrests were made in response to complaints lodged by multiple victims who fell prey to these criminal activities, with some reporting the loss of mobile phones, money, gadgets, and other possessions,” stated Adele.

She further added, “The recovery of weapons like cutlasses, knives, and a phone suspected to be stolen from a victim underscores the serious nature of their crimes.”

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, reiterated the police command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

The statement also emphasized Igweh’s advice for the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities using the provided police emergency contact numbers.
