About Chelsea’s Transfer Policy Regarding Academy Players, as Explained by Maresca

An insight into Chelsea’s strategy regarding academy players has been shared by Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, amid the current summer transfer window.

Chelsea has recently finalized a deal with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of one of their academy talents, Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher is among a number of academy products that Chelsea has allowed to depart in search of new opportunities.

Among these transfers include the departure of Mason Mount, who was previously sold to Premier League counterpart Manchester United.

In response to the question of why Chelsea repeatedly opt to sell academy prospects such as Gallagher,

Maresca addressed the media on Monday evening and was quoted by Fabrizio Romano saying: “It’s not an issue specific to Chelsea… It comes down to regulations.

“Clubs are obligated to make sales due to these regulations. This isn’t only a Chelsea concern; it extends to the broader Premier League landscape.”
