Abia Assembly Urged to Swear In Aaron Uzodike, PDP Member-Elect

In Abia State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate swearing-in of Hon Aaron Uzodike, the member-elect of the Aba North State Constituency, by the state House of Assembly.

Following the restoration of his mandate by the Appeal Court in Lagos, the Speaker of the House, Emmanuel Emeruwa, has yet to inaugurate the PDP member despite the passage of several months. The court had nullified the election of Destiny Nwagwu of the Labour Party (LP).

The Abia State PDP Chairman, Alwell Asiforo Okere, issued a statement on the matter through the Acting Publicity Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Party, Elder Abraham Amah, instructing the PDP caucus in the state assembly to facilitate the inauguration of Aaron Uzodike.

After consultations with members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, the directive was issued, stating that there are no legal impediments to his inauguration since he received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on December 13, 2023, which is the only requirement.

The statement also appealed to Abia elders, concerned citizens, and Labour Party members dissatisfied with their leader’s actions to intervene and ensure Aaron Uzodike’s immediate inauguration. This, it emphasized, is crucial to protecting democracy and preventing constituents from taking matters into their own hands.
