Catholic priest, three others abducted in Ebonyi

The kidnapping of Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Azubuike, a Catholic Priest, occurred in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The cleric, who serves at St. Charles Parish, Mgbaleze Isu in Onicha Local Government Area, was abducted along with three others on Monday, July 10, while returning from pastoral duties.

 

The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has verified the abduction and has asked for prayers for the safe release of the priest and the three others.

 

A statement titled “Call For Prayers,” signed by the Diocese’s Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Matthew Uzoma Opoke, was issued on Tuesday, July 11. The church’s announcement stated:

 

“We are seeking prayers for the safe release of Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Azubuike, who was abducted on Monday, 10th of July, 2023 near his parish while returning from pastoral duties. Fr. Joseph is the Parish Priest of St. Charles Parish, Mgbaleze Isu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He was kidnapped alongside three other individuals. The abductors are making financial demands, but with your prayers, we believe they will be safely returned.”

“May Mary, Mother of priests, intercede for us. Amen.
St. Joseph-Pray for us.”
