A US Judge in Court is Attacked by a Convict

During a hearing, a Las Vegas judge was assaulted by a convicted criminal after she refused to grant him bail.

Deobra Delone Redden, a convicted offender, attacked Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus while she was in the process of delivering a sentence.

A video released by Reuters on Thursday captured the moment Redden leapt from his position and charged the judge’s bench, attempting to tackle her.

An eyewitnesses informed The Independent that a courtroom marshal sustained injuries, including a dislocated shoulder and a deep cut on his forehead while trying to remove the defendant.

The Las Vegas district court released a statement commending the heroic actions of the staff and law enforcement who subdued the defendant.

The court affirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure courthouse and courtrooms, and stated that it is reviewing all protocols to ensure the protection of the judiciary, the public, and its employees.

Judge Holthus reportedly suffered injuries from the assault and is currently under observation for her condition.

The Nevada attorney general’s office expressed their well wishes for Judge Holtus and the court marshal who were injured in the altercation, hoping for a swift recovery.

The office sent their sincerest well wishes to District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus and the injured marshal, acknowledging their dedication to justice and the court.

Following his custody, Redden was charged with several new felonies, including violence against a protected person, which comprises the judge and court staff.

According to Daily Mail, Redden was being sentenced for aggravated battery with substantial bodily harm just before he launched his attack.

Redden, a resident of Las Vegas, underwent a mental evaluation and was deemed fit to stand trial.

In November, Redden pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempted battery resulting in significant physical harm.

State records indicate that Redden has a history of serving prison time in Nevada for a conviction related to domestic battery, as reported by The Independent.

With the judge’s determination to ensure his imprisonment and the court marshal’s move to restrain him, Redden defiantly surged forward.

Redden had previously appeared before Judge Holthus on allegations of property destruction, according to documents, as reported by The US Sun.
