A tragic incident: Man confesses to killing his three months pregnant girlfriend

Mustapha Idris, 29 years old from Ringim Local Government Area Jigawa state, was arrested for the murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend, Nafisa Hashimu, who was three months pregnant with his child.

According to Audu Jinjiri, the state police command spokesperson, Mustapha and Hashimu, who was a divorcee, were living together as partners in Daneji village. Upon discovering her pregnancy, Mustapha reacted in anger, ultimately stabbing her to death. Her lifeless body was discovered in a bush at the outskirts of Daneji village, approximately 22 kilometres from Ringim town.

During interrogation, Mustapha confessed to the killing, attributing his action to the fear of societal shame associated with having a child out of wedlock.

“I’m ashamed of how the society will see us after she delivers the unborn child out of wedlock, and thus I decided to terminate her life to stay away from shame,” he said.

Mr Jinjiri, the police spokesperson in Jigawa, confirmed that the deceased was found in a pool of blood in the bush and certified dead by a medical doctor. Her body was then released to her relatives for burial.

The suspect is set to face legal proceedings, as confirmed by the police spokesperson, Mr Jinjiri.
