A Call for Strategy Review in Addressing Insecurity

Dr. Hassan Sadique, a security expert, has emphasized the need for a reassessment of strategies by the military and other allied agencies in the relentless battle against insurgency and various criminal activities within the nation.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday, Sadique stressed the imperative nature of adjusting tactics to effectively combat the prevailing security challenges.

He urged a comprehensive review of strategies by the military, particularly the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), advocating beyond mere augmentation of military resources to encompass intelligence gathering, non-kinetic approaches, and swift responses to potential threats.

Sadique highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration among the military and other security outfits to enhance operational efficiency.

While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, he pressed for heightened endeavors to bring perpetrators of insecurity to justice.

Expressing optimism in the nation’s security prospects, Sadique recommended the constitution of a committee comprising both active and retired military personnel to outline a policy framework for addressing security challenges.

He further urged the government to promptly address the welfare needs of security personnel, emphasizing the significance of continuous training to boost performance.

Sadique also called for the identification and prosecution of alleged sponsors of terrorism, citing it as a pivotal step in combatting the menace effectively.

Addressing the issue of unemployment, particularly among the youth demographic, he underscored the necessity of curbing social vices that have thrived due to economic hardships.

Another security analyst, Dr. Abdullahi Jabbi, lauded the sacrifices of Nigerian security personnel and advocated for intensified intelligence gathering and swift responses to evolving security threats.

Highlighting the importance of a holistic approach, Jabbi urged collaboration between security forces and the public, emphasizing the role of non-kinetic strategies in countering insurgency.

He reiterated the essentiality of prioritizing the welfare of security personnel to enhance their dedication and efficiency in safeguarding the nation.

Recognizing the challenges faced by military personnel, Jabbi called for urgent measures to improve their well-being for the collective benefit of the country and its citizens.
