A boost of $50,000 for Nigerian clubs

In the ongoing CAF Champions Club competitions, Nigerian teams like Enugu Rangers, Remo Stars, Enyimba, and El-Kanemi Warriors are set to receive $50,000 each as participation fees in the initial stages of the Champions League and Confederation Cup, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra r.

Enugu Rangers and Remo Stars are representing Nigeria in the Champions League, while Enyimba and El Kanemi Warriors are competing in the Confederation Cup.

The new monetary reward was announced by CAF in a recent statement.

“As part of the efforts to enhance club competitions and provide financial support to clubs, each club participating in the preliminary rounds of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be awarded USD 50,000,” stated the continental football body on their website.

The preliminary matches have already commenced, with the prize money set to increase at each subsequent stage. If the Nigerian clubs progress to the group stages, they could earn up to $400,000 and $700,000 in each competition.

The victor of the CAF Champions League will receive $4,000, while the Confederation Cup winner will get $2,000.

El-Kanemi Warriors will be the first Nigerian club in action, facing Dadje FC from Benin Republic in the initial encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, happening on Saturday (today).

Nine-time NPFL champions Enyimba, participating in the CAF inter-club competition, have received a bye in this round.

Enugu Rangers are scheduled to play against US Zilimadjou from Comoros in the first leg of their preliminary Champions League match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday. Meanwhile, Remo Stars will host AS FAR Rabat from Morocco.

Similarly to Rangers, Zilimadjou is also utilizing the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, as their home turf.
