The body of a 33-year-old Spaniard was discovered at dawn on Tuesday dismembered in a house in the city of Saint Denis, on the northern outskirts of Paris, by the police, who have arrested his landlord on suspicion of having perpetrated the crime, reports the newspaper Le Parisien.
The murdered man, who according to the Basque press is originally from the Guipuzcoan city of Tolosa but had lived in France for six years, had been dismembered and the agents found different parts of his body in various places in the two-story house he had rented, located at number 9 of the Bel Air villa, according to Le Parisien.
Agents found the head in the bathroom and other remains in a saucepan
According to police sources cited by the French newspaper, a head corresponding to the victim’s description was in the bathroom, the trunk in a plastic box and there were more remains under a blood-stained tarp, as well as meat of unidentified origin inside a saucepan.
The alert was given by the Spaniard’s aunt, who had not heard from him for several days, and who notified the police after having gone to the house, where no one responded, and having seen that her nephew had parked his car there.
The landlord’s confession: he murdered the Spaniard after an argument
The firefighters who responded first found the owner, a 50-year-old man, who after initially refusing to give them access, allowed it when law enforcement arrived, to whom he admitted having been the author of the death.
In his confession, he said that the events occurred last Friday during a fight over an argument in which he hit the victim and he died.
To transport and dispose of the body, he decided to section it. In fact, the police have seized a kitchen knife and other items that may have been used.
Although it is not a privileged clue, investigators have doubts about the intentions of the alleged murderer, and about possible cannibalism practices, having found remains in different containers, including a saucepan.
Another element pending clarification, according to Le Parisien, is that the suspect had in his possession the identity card of another person whom they were trying to locate.
The judicial police in charge of the case have questioned people in the neighborhood to try to obtain information, particularly about the detainee.
