NFF Introduces New Super Eagles Head Coach: Bruno Labbadia from Germany

In an exciting update, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Bruno Labbadia, a German football tactician, as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

The announcement was made earlier today by Mohammed Sanusi, the Secretary General of the NFF.

Sanusi stated, “The NFF Executive Committee has given the green light to the recommendation made by its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to bring in Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. This appointment is effective immediately.”

Born on 8th February 1966 in Darmstadt, Germany, Labbadia has earned two caps playing for Die Mannschaft.

Throughout this decade, Labbadia has managed prominent clubs such as Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart. He has also had successful coaching stints with VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, Bayer Leverkusen, among others. Holding a UEFA Pro License adds to his extensive credentials.

He becomes the sixth German to lead the Super Eagles, following the footsteps of Karl-Heinz Marotzke (1970-1974), Gottlieb Göller (1981), Manfred Höner (1988-1989), Berti Vogts (2007-2008), and Gernot Rohr (2016-2021).

Labbadia’s initial task is to steer the three-time African champions through two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic (scheduled for Saturday, 7th September in Uyo) and Rwanda (set for Tuesday, 10th September in Kigali). Subsequently, four more matches will follow to conclude the qualifying campaign in the months of October and November.
