Deportation Threat Looms Over Nigerian Students in Russia due to Passport Renewal Issues

A group of Nigerian students, including those from Niger State, are facing the possibility of deportation from Moscow, Russia back to Nigeria. This situation arises from their unsuccessful attempts to renew their International Passports.

The students have encountered difficulties in renewing their passports reportedly because of a shortage of materials needed to print the new documents.

Distressed by this development, the undergraduate students have reached out to their parents to inform them about the looming risk of deportation from Russia if they fail to renew their passports.

Reports indicate that the green cards of these students are close to expiration, and their efforts to renew them have been fruitless as the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Russia claims to lack the necessary materials for passport renewal.

Expressing his dismay, a concerned parent named Yakubu Tauheed Bina mentioned that it would cost over N5 million for his son to return to Nigeria and renew his passport.

During an interview in Minna with journalists, Bina questioned why the Nigerian Embassy in Russia has not been able to provide a lasting solution to this challenge, and inquired whether the Nigerian government is adequately supporting the embassy in that country.

He made an appeal to the Federal and State governments to assist parents whose children are studying abroad, as well as other Nigerians residing outside the country, by ensuring the timely renewal and issuance of passports to prevent the distressing scenario of deportation.
