Gas Tanker Overturns in Lagos, Driver Suffers Injuries

An incident occurred along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway on Wednesday where a driver, transporting gas in a tanker, sustained injuries after his vehicle overturned.

Confirming the incident, Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, provided details in a statement accessed by PUNCH Online on the same day.

No information about the driver’s identity has been released yet, but reports indicate that he is currently receiving medical attention.

Taofiq commended the prompt response of LASTMA personnel and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services in preventing a potential disaster following the incident.

In an official statement, Taofiq mentioned, “Earlier today, a gas tanker overturned at Anthony Oke, on its way to Gbagada along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. Immediate action was taken by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other emergency responders.”

He continued, “The driver of the tanker sustained injuries to his hand and was rescued by LASTMA personnel for medical treatment.

“The combined efforts of the Lagos State Fire Service, the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), and other emergency responders on-site ensured that safety measures were enforced effectively to prevent any potential dangers.”

Following the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA,
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who was at the scene, emphasized the agency’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of road users in the state.

“With the assistance of the LRU, LASTMA successfully cleared the tanker and its gas cylinder from the road, allowing for the resumption of traffic flow towards Gbagada, Iyana-Oworo, Car Wash, Ifako, and Toll Gate.

“Ensuring the safety of our citizens is our primary focus, and we appreciate the collaborative efforts of all parties involved,” stated Bakare-Oki.
