Global leaders from various countries, including former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, gathered at the 2024 International Leaders Forum during the Democratic National Convention in the United States.

In a statement shared on social media, Obi revealed their participation in the event, where they were invited by the Board of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs to engage with leaders worldwide, exchange experiences, and address challenges faced by democratic institutions.

Obi expressed gratitude for the invitation, stating, “I, along with two other eminent Nigerians and around two hundred distinguished political leaders from 91 countries, participated in the 2024 International Leaders Forum alongside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, from August 19-22, 2024.”

He emphasized the importance of the ILF in fostering relationships, sharing experiences, and collectively addressing issues related to democratic values and norms among leaders from diverse backgrounds and ideologies.

The forum featured interactive sessions with prominent US political figures like DNC Chair Jamie Harrison, former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, as well as international leaders such as the Prime Minister of Kosovo, the former Prime Minister of Denmark, and the former NATO Secretary General.

Obi highlighted the opportunity the ILF provided for leaders from emerging democracies in Africa to learn and contribute to the development of robust democratic systems.
